Variazioni di Butterfly

Variazioni di Butterfly is a semi-structured audiovisual improvisation featuring a recording from the first act of Puccini’s Madame Butterfly accompanied by visuals from an opera film of Madame Butterfly and footage of pinned butterflies from the Ford Motor Company in Brazil. Through these audio and visual samples, the listener is encouraged to contemplate cultural ownership and East Asia in the Western imagination.
