A moon sits on the surface of dark water, rendered in four colors on a phosphor display that holds each frame a moment after it has gone. The surface is never quite still, so the moon is continually breaking and reassembling. Korea's Goryeo painters gave the bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara a moon in water: plainly visible, and not in the water at all.
